Is there a list of preferred vendors from the Illinois Treasurer for filing reports under the new Illinois Revised Uniform Unclaimed Property Act (Illinois RUUPA)?

The Treasurer’s office has advised us that they do not have a list of “preferred vendors.” They did provide some general guidance, outlined below:

  • All of the major CPA firms provide unclaimed property reporting services, usually within their state and local tax divisions. The Treasurer’s office reported that all of these firms had been doing a good job keeping up with new developments to unclaimed property reporting under the Illinois RUUPA.
  • The Treasurer’s office suggested avoiding law firms offering unclaimed property reporting services.
  • The Treasurer’s office has a good relationship with Conduent (formerly a part of Xerox). This firm is the Treasurer’s custodian for unclaimed property. Conduent provides a free version of unclaimed property filing software for smaller-scale property holders (more of a do-it-yourself approach rather than using a full-service a vendor).
  • The Treasurer’s office doesn’t favor “boutique” vendors of unclaimed property reporting. They do have good experiences working with Georgeson, but they were reluctant to recommend them because they had recently plead guilty in an unrelated fraud scheme.
  • The Treasurer’s office also mentioned looking at the Unclaimed Property Professionals Organization (UPPO) website at www.uppo.org for other possible vendors.
