Yes, the Illinois Department of Insurance (IDOI) website has a lookup tool for insurance companies authorized to sell insurance in Illinois. The IDOI also publishes yearly market share reports that list providers authorized to sell insurance in Illinois by category, including private flood insurance.
You can access the lookup tool by selecting “Company Lookup” from the “Consumer” dropdown menu at the top of the website. You can then select “General Information” and type in the name of the company you want to look up. Companies listed as “active” (as opposed to “canceled”) are authorized to sell insurance in Illinois.
Also, you can access the yearly market reports by selecting “Reports” from the “Consumer” dropdown menu, and “Market Share Reports” from the next menu that appears. The most recent market share report for all Illinois-licensed property and casualty companies is from 2017. The report lists 41 companies licensed to sell private flood insurance in Illinois. We recommend cross-checking companies that appear in this report with the lookup tool.
