Do you have a list of the employment law posters that we need to display in Illinois?

Below is a list of Illinois laws that may require you to post a notice or poster. Unless otherwise noted, most posters are available for download on the Illinois Department of Labor’s website, which also has links to other Illinois departments’ required postings.

That website also has some of the federally-required postings (though it has not been updated to include the National Labor Relations Board’s new Notification of Employee Rights poster, required to be posted starting next year, available here).

Illinois Human Rights Act

775 ILCS 5

Prohibits discrimination in employment, real estate transactions, access to financial credit, and the availability of public accommodations based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, order of protection status, marital status, physical or mental disability, military status, sexual orientation, pregnancy [effective January 1, 2015], or unfavorable discharge from military service. Effective January 1, 2015, requires employers to display an Illinois Department of Human Rights notice or to include the notice in employee handbooks. 775 ILCS 5/2-102(K)(1).

Equal Pay Act of 2003

820 ILCS 112

Prohibits wage discrimination based on gender and requires employers to display an Illinois Department of Labor poster.

Victims’ Economic Security and Safety Act

820 ILCS 180

Provides employment protection for victims of domestic or sexual violence and their family or household members and requires employers to display an Illinois Department of Labor poster.

Unemployment Insurance Act

820 ILCS 405

Provides temporary income-replacement for workers who lose their jobs through no fault of their own and requires employers to display an Illinois Department of Employment Security notice in “conspicuous places in all the establishments of the employer, and shall be easily accessible for examination by the worker.” The notice is available here.

Workers’ Compensation Act

820 ILCS 305

Addresses job-related injuries or illnesses. Requires employers to post a notice that explains workers’ rights under this Act in a prominent place in each office location. The Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission posters are available here, and the current English-version is available here.

Minimum Wage Law

820 ILCS 105

Requires employers with four or more employees to pay a minimum wage designated by statute to individuals who are 18 years and older and requires employers to display an Illinois Department of Labor notice in a conspicuous place in each office location.

Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act

820 ILCS 115

Requires employers to pay wages to their employees in accordance with certain timing and method requirements set forth in the Act. Requires the display of Department of Labor notices “at each regular place of business in a position easily accessible to all employees.”

One Day Rest In Seven Act

820 ILCS 140

Requires employers to provide for 24 consecutive hours of rest in every calendar week, with certain exceptions.

Child Labor Law

820 ILCS 205

Addresses conditions of employment of minors. Requires employment certificate signed by or on behalf of the City or County Superintendent of Schools permitting employment of the minor during school vacations and outside of school hours.
